On a multiplication and a theory of integration for belief and plausibility functions

1987

Abstract Belief and plausibility functions have been introduced as generalizations of probability measures, which abandon the axiom of additivity. It turns out that elementwise multiplication is a binary operation on the set of belief functions. If the set functions of the type considered here are defined on a locally compact and separable space X , a theorem by Choquet ensures that they can be represented by a probability measure on the space containing the closed subsets of X , the so-called basic probability assignment. This is basic for defining two new types of integrals. One of them may be used to measure the degree of non-additivity of the belief or plausibility function. The other o…

A multidimensional model based on the Choquet integral to evaluate performance of waterfront redevelopment projects in promoting local growth

2012

The paper aim to construct a multi-criteria model assessing the suitability of waterfront development scenarios to contribute to local growth. The model applies to the city of Catania. It is built according to the strategic directions on territorial government recognized by European Community for Sicily. The evaluation model includes a set of strategic criteria for local social and economic sustainability. The aesthetic and functional regeneration of urban waterfront areas is a very complex issue because of the manifold social, environmental and economic implications. The choice among different alternatives of redevelopment of such a kind of areas should be addressed with typical techniques…

A Choquet Integral Based Assessment Model of Projects of Urban Neglected Areas: A Case of Study

2014

This paper describes a multi-criteria evaluation model to support decisions related to the redevelopment of urban residual areas, a central theme in planning practices. Renewal projects on urban or neighborhood scale are complex problems because of the social, economic and environmental implications generated on the different categories of stakeholders. In the awareness of the specific characteristics of each city, the cognitive and evaluation model is especially defined for a given urban context, although it is easily adaptable to different urban ones. In order to take into account the interactions among the criteria by which we compare design alternatives, the Choquet integral is implemen…
